Stray Boots is reinventing city exploration with scavenger hunt-style games you play using your cell phone (think your own private Amazing Race). For urban explorers not satisfied to walk around aimlessly or listen to a walking history lesson, we provide a fun, exciting, interactive experience that shows them the best parts of their city through an entertaining game.   Featured in the NY Times, Washington Post, and Fast Company, we're an angel-backed startup and member of the winter 2012 class of the Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator in NYC.

Founded by three Ivy-Leaguers with a passion for travel, we're a close-knit, enthusiastic, hard-working team fully invested in our product, customers, and vision.  So far, we've generated over 20,000 paying customers, local and national press, and products in 15 cities in the US and UK.  Having been accepted into the ER Accelerator program, we're now building out our tech team to be more agile and robust, and are looking for the key players who want to be the foundation of an exciting, rapidly growing startup.

Designer / Front-End Web Developer

We're seeking a UX expert with design, HTML, and CSS skills to join our awesome team.

We adore great design but aren't so hot at creating it ourselves, so we're looking for a talented designer with a depth of mobile and web experience, an eye for usability and user experience, and the ability to execute his/her designs in clean, standards-compliant HTML and CSS.  You'll be redesigning our logo and branding; redesigning our mobile app and website, designing marketing materials, email communications, and everything in between.  

If taking charge of a company's visual identity energizes you...  If you communicate as well visually as with words...  If clumsy interfaces make you wince...  If you obsess as deeply over macro-scale balance as you do over the exact right hue of blue or the pixel-perfect placement of a period...  If you know the difference between a block element and the box model...  then we want YOU!

Django / Python Developer

We're seeking an experienced Python developer to help us develop our gameplay engine and e-commerce website, both written using the Django framework. 

You'll be just our third technical hire, and will have tons of say in where we take our product.  It's brand-new, and we've cobbled together something that works and that we're proud of, but it still does only a fraction of the things we think it could -- and we can't wait to hear your creative ideas about where else it could go. 

If you're as comfortable and confident making the big decisions about software architecture as you are placing parentheses in code...  If you know and love all of Django's shortcuts but also know when to take the long way around...  If you have the experience to build software that will last and can grow with us…  If you can strike that balance between Getting It Just Right and Getting It Done...  we want you on our team!

Responsibilities

You'll maintain and develop new features for our gameplay engine, e-commerce website, and content-management system -- we have a starting point, but you'll be taking it new places and building new things every week.  Most work will involve development in Python using Django.

Digital Photography & Videography Intern

The intern will work with senior marketing and web development staff to create, select, and organize media that will be used directly in the company's web presence and marketing campaigns.  The opportunity provides an inside look at how a start-up uses video and photography to appeal to its audience.  Primary focus will be on selection of media from an extensive library and development of additional media.  He/she will gain hands-on experience working on a number of projects in this fast-paced but casual work environment.

You will learn:

  • What makes a photo suitable or unsuitable for commercial use (as opposed to art photography or snapshots)
  • Differentiating good from poor quality photographs

Analyst Intern

The intern will work with cofounders to develop, improve, and maintain reports that directly influence major decisions.  The opportunity provides an inside look at how a start-up collects and uses data to respond to a rapidly changing technological and economic landscape.  The intern will have direct exposure to almost every aspect of the business and the numbers that influence them, including sales, marketing and operations. Primary focus will be on monitoring and reporting on both financial and customer data as it impacts day to day operations and big-picture marketing decisions.  He/she will gain hands-on experience working on a number of projects in this fast-paced but casual work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with co-founders to use data as a tool for real business decisions in marketing, website design, and customer loyalty program
  • Generating sales reports and financial statements
  • Monitoring and reporting on website analytics and customer data

Marketing Intern

The intern will work with cofounders to develop the business and its primary product, The Game, as we expand across the country.  The opportunity provides an inside look at how a start-up launches and develops a product, designs and executes marketing strategies, and responds to a rapidly changing technological and economic landscape.  The intern will have direct exposure to almost every aspect of the business, including sales, marketing and operations. Primary focus will be on developing, implementing, and monitoring marketing strategies and tactics.  He/she will gain hands-on experience working on a number of projects in this fast-paced but casual work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • executing marketing strategies, such as a customer referral program, promotional events, flyer distribution and viral campaigns
  • media and promotional outreach to bloggers and editorial listings
  • conducting research for marketing leads and purchasing decisions
  • directly handling customer service and sales calls and emails (occasional weekend customer service)
