Stray Boots is a VC-backed tech startup that’s reinventing city exploration, by turning walking tours into interactive adventures you play using your cell phone. Our Amazing-Race style mobile games make discovering the best parts of the city fun and engaging for locals and visitors looking for a new way to navigate and learn about their town.
So far, we've generated over 60,000 paying customers and hundreds of thousands in revenue, and developed exciting tours in 16 cities in the US and UK. Featured in the NY Times (twice), Washington Post, Fast Company, and TechCrunch (3 times), we’re capturing the imagination of consumers around the country. Having graduated the Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator program (ERA) and obtained VC funding, we're now building out our team so we can grow more rapidly. We’re looking for the key players who want to be the foundation of an exciting, rapidly growing company and members of a phenomenal team.
Founded by three Ivy-Leaguers with a passion for travel, Stray Boots is all about helping people have fun and our office culture reflects that. We strike a good workplace balance between playful and focused, between weekly meetings and Beer Fridays. You'll be joining a close-knit, enthusiastic and hard-working team fully invested in our product, customers, and over-arching vision.

Front-End Web Developer
We're hiring a front-end developer at our urban games / mobile-guided exploration startup -- a modern-day coder who strikes the balance between Getting It Pixel-Perfect and Getting it Done. And if you're also a talented designer, even better!
You'll maintain and develop the interfaces for our gameplay, e-commerce website, and content-management system. We're developing new features (such as a user account panel), making our existing site responsive, and bringing our mobile web gameplay interface up to closer parity with our iPhone app -- so there's plenty to do and no shortage of variety. There's even a full site redesign in the works in the foreseeable future. You'll be just the fourth member of our web team, and you'll have tons of say in how we build our website and the mobile web interface to our games.
Skills & Requirements:
- HTML and CSS
- Concise, semantic, and maintainable markup and selectors
- Progressive enhancement
- Responsive layouts
- Javascript, especially w/ jQuery
- Able to handle cross-browser compatibility in major desktop and mobile browsers
- Ability to integrate with a server-side templating system (in this case, Django's)
Bonus Points for:
- Mad design skillz
- HTML5, CSS3
- Experience with LESS or other CSS frameworks
- Experience with CoffeeScript
- Experience with a client-side state management framework such as Backbone.js
- Experience with Comet/WebSockets/Reverse AJAX
- Not intimidated by Python
To apply, send cover letter and portfolio to jobs@strayboots.com, and tell us why you're excited about working for Stray Boots.
Designer
Stray Boots is hiring a designer at our urban game / mobile-guided exploration startup. You see, we adore great design but aren't so hot at creating it ourselves, so we're looking for a talented designer to make our site and apps as fun to use as they are functional, and as communicative as they are pretty.
You'll be the first in-house designer on our team, and you'll never lack for variety: you'll be redesigning our logo and branding, our mobile app and website, marketing materials, email communications, designing interfaces for entirely new site and app features, and everything in between.
We don't just want a Photoshop operator: take charge of our design projects and come up with solutions we didn't realize were possible to the problems we didn't even know we had. We'll depend on you to cut through the too-long list of competing concepts that we want to communicate, to come up with focused, uncluttered designs that funnel the user towards the most important actions.
If you communicate well both visually and with words... If clumsy interfaces make you wince... If you obsess as deeply over macro-scale balance as you do over the exact right hue of blue or the pixel-perfect placement of a period... then we want you on our team!
What we're looking for:
- Website and mobile design
- User experience design for web and mobile apps
- Logo and identity design
- Emphasis on UX and usability
- A gorgeous portfolio
- Ability to distill complex concepts into focused, action-oriented visuals
Bonus Points for:
- Ability to code your own designs in HTML & CSS
- HTML5 / CSS3
- Javascript (esp. w/ jQuery)
- A print project or two under your belt
To apply, send cover letter and portfolio to jobs@strayboots.com, and tell us why you're excited about working for Stray Boots.
