French Quarter: Ghosts, Toasts, and Jazz Notes

2-3 Hours

Think of the French Quarter, and booze and beads quickly come to mind. But the old neighborhood isn't just about partying and Mardi-ing; it's also packed with history, filled with food, and stuffed with supernatural stories. Granted, you'll have your chance to stumble down Bourbon St. as you soak up the sights, sounds, and smells of America's rowdiest neighborhood.  Swing by a bar where four American Presidents got world-leadingly drunk, and then get "blown away" where the Hurricane cocktail was born. If things get a little fuzzy, don't worry. After a couple haunted houses and a whiff of the Mississippi River, you'll be as sober as a statue.  Reacquaint yourself with Marie Laveau, the Queen of Voodoo, before swinging by her old church, St. Louis Cathedral. Take in some live music and be bookish at the homes of famous novelists. By the time you rest your Jean Lafitte at Cafe Du Monde for an artery bursting beignet, you'll know the Quarter like the back of your jazz hands.
