Five New Tours Coming to Philly & Boston
Download as PDFPhiladelphia, PA – May 5, 2011 - Move over, walking tours! Starting this spring, visitors and locals can experience Boston and Philadelphia in a brand new way. Stray Boots Scavenger Hunts is launching its scavenger hunt-style tours in both historic cities. As of April, adventurers can explore Beacon Hill, Back Bay, or Downtown Boston guided only by text message challenges beamed right to their own cell phones. Starting May 14th, fearless Philadelphians will be able to discover Old City and Center City in the same exciting way.
Following the success of the company's signature tours in New York City, Stray Boots saw an opportunity to unlock local knowledge and make it available to visitors in Boston and Philadelphia. These new tours will offer travelers scavenger-style walking tours guided at their own speed by their cellular phones. The interactive tours include a mix of local restaurants and shops, historic monuments, and quirky locales only insiders know about. The advantage of touring a city this way is that it’s completely interactive, with the customer unlocking the history and facts hidden beneath the city’s surface rather than just passively listening to an expert or reading it in a guidebook.
Getting started with Boston: The Game or Philly: The Game, as the tours are called, is very simple. Customers can visit www.strayboots.com online, pick their city, and purchase tickets for any of the neighborhoods offered for just $10 a person (kids 12 and under are half price). Upon purchasing, customers receive an email with simple instructions for texting an activation code to a ten-digit phone number. The tours are completely flexible, so customers can activate their phones and begin the tour whenever they want, just by going to the starting spot and following the directions they received in the email.
Stray Boots was founded in 2008 by New Yorkers Avi Millman, 28, and Scott Knackmuhs, 26. Avid travelers who thought there must be a more interesting way to discover the world’s urban treasures, the two devised and launched New York: The Game in the summer of 2009, funding the venture on their own. After rapid success in their hometown, the two began receiving requests for The Game in other cities. Finally this year, they decided to branch out, launching in Las Vegas in February and now in Boston and Philadelphia this spring. They have plans to continue their expansion, with DC, San Francisco, LA and London on the horizon.
