Stray Boots Tours Brings Text Message Game to San Francisco
Download as PDF San Francisco - July 5, 2011: Beginning July 14, 2011, Bay Area locals and visitors will be able to explore San Francisco via their cell phones with the launch of Stray Boots' new 'San Francisco: The Game' interactive tours. Conducted through text messages, the four preliminary city tours will cover the Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, Haight Ashbury and North Beach neighborhoods. These innovative tours will allow participants to canvas San Francisco on foot at their own pace, at a fraction of the cost of traditional walking tours. The City by the Bay becomes the first West Coast city in Stray Boots' growing tour portfolio, it was announced earlier this month by Avi Millman, founder and CEO."We have had great success with our signature tours in New York City and the rest of the East Coast and we are thrilled to finally bring this unique product to the West Coast," said Millman. "San Francisco is one of the most dynamic walking cities in the country and it was the logical choice for the start of our Pacific Coast expansion." With tours already offered in New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington D.C. and Las Vegas, Stray Boots plans to expand to Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland and San Diego by the end of the year.
By capitalizing on the interactivity, ease-of-use, and real-time editing capabilities of text messaging technology, Stray Boots provides users with not only a view of well-established tourist sites and attractions, but also access to the latest "insider" off-the-beaten-path gems.
Half scavenger hunt, half walking tour, each of the four San Francisco neighborhood tours was individually developed by Stray Boots experts on the ground. Neighborhoods were meticulously explored to highlight local nuances that give each area of the city its distinct personality. Participants discover these local charms through the game clues and fast facts given at the completion of each challenge.
How it works:
Participants enroll on a scavenger hunt tour by visiting www.sanfranciscothegame.com and purchasing a ticket. Once payment is confirmed, a message is sent to the user's email address with an activation code and the tour's start location. Following text-message prompts, participants are guided with riddles, puzzles, photo opps and trivia questions to points of interest along the tour's route. Each user response in the journey garners them points, making it possible to compete between groups of friends, family members, or pre-assigned teams.
At an introductory cost of $12 USD per ticket, the "San Francisco: The Game" self-paced tour is a budget-friendly approach to the city and has a duration of approximately two-to-three hours. Once activated, participants have one month to finish the tour.
